Educare or Obamacare
Whether you are against Obamacare or against abuses in the healthcare industry, a radical overhaul in healthcare is premature and counterproductive as necessary individual changes needed to lower cost have not been explored or implemented.
There are many individuals that are dependent on the government for healthcare. Unfortunately, the retired and the less educated or impoverished persons in American society are also citizens who, for obvious reasons, are more likely to require expensive care. The elderly are in a physical state more prone to disease or a decline in health due to the aging process. Ultimately, health requires as much preparation and attention as a nest egg. Most Americans grow older without giving thought to their physical constitution or their susceptibility to disease due to age, heredity, nutrition or physical agility. Lack of balance as a result of muscle atrophy or easily broken bones due to falls or osteoporosis and even heart disease etc. can all be avoided given the right care and preparedness.
Another group of Americans mentioned that are vulnerable to disease or illness are those living in poverty and receiving a less than adequate education. A poor education doesn’t leave much to desire for oneself and certainly not their health when poverty is their reality. This is a very dangerous group as their children are most affected due to the influence of the educational thus financial limitations of their parents. This also ill-prepares another generation to combat juvenile to adult diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure etc.
America must think differently about healthcare and industry altogether. On the one hand lay the personal responsibility to oneself and the other hand make a socially conscious decision when choosing a doctor, hospital or insurance. In saying that, each of us must use tools to keep ourselves and our families' healthy. After doing our part to not burden the system we then turn to the private market for ways to collectively turn around an industry that seems to be out of control. Coming together with innovative ideas to create a more sound healthcare industry for America is for everyone’s benefit.
